The mission of the Sturgeon School Division is to ensure that all students achieve success in the programs of study offered in our schools.

Our schools focus on helping children develop emotionally, intellectually, physically, morally and spiritually into creative and critical thinkers with strong communicative and computational skills.

The library:

  • Prepares students to work as effective consumers of information.
  • Provides a wide variety of materials and resources necessary to implement, enrich, and support the educational program of the school.
  • Encourages reading as a lifelong activity.

Policies and Procedures

The library is meant to be a positive and productive place for study and research and for instruction and learning. Students are expected to observe the policies that are in place which support that primary goal. Our library is intended as a learning centre and we encourage students to use its resources.  Those wishing to socialize are encouraged to go elsewhere

Library users should treat Library staff with courtesy and respect, and comply with the following Library practices and provisions:

  • The Library is a place for quiet study; library users should conduct themselves accordingly and avoid disturbing others.
  • Library materials may be removed from the Library only when they have been checked out properly. Staff may require users to show the contents of briefcases, knapsacks or bags at the exit to check for library materials.
  • Library books, journals, equipment and furniture should be treated with care and should not be damaged or defaced.

At the discretion of Library staff, users may be asked to leave Library facilities if the users' behaviour is incompatible with Library policies. At the discretion of the Library staff, Library users may be banned from Library facilities for non-compliance with policies and established conditions of use of the Library resources, facilities and equipment.

No food or drinks are allowed in the library. However, students can bring in water at any time. Socializing is not permitted and students will be asked to leave, and possibly have their LRC privileges suspended, if they act in an irresponsible manner.

Stapler, 3-hole punch, scissors, felt markers, pencil crayons, rulers, and glue are available for student use in the library. Students must provide all other materials.

Loan Periods

Your photo ID card is your library card.  Students may sign out 5 materials at one time and most items may be kept two weeks and renewed if necessary.  Overdue notices are delivered to students periodically. There are no fines for overdue materials, but students’ library borrowing privileges are suspended until the materials are returned or paid for.

Our expectation is that students will return or renew any materials they check out by the due date. There is a book return inside the main doors to the library. Materials which are not renewed or returned must be paid for in full. A reminder letter goes home to parents/guardians when students are not taking responsibility for their materials.

Reserves can be placed on popular items.

Printing Services

Students may print their assignments in the library or make photocopies. A small charge of $0.10 per page is applied.

Library Computer Lab
The library has 30 computer workstations with online access. Computers and other equipment are for academic purposes only, with class use taking priority over individual use.
